A Girl Trekker challenge!
Level 4: Walks are 8 hours per day at a faster pace, rough tracks with some scrambling.
The Royal National Park south of Sydney is Australia's oldest National Park. On this more challenging GirlsTrek we cover longer distances each day on coastal and inland trails. The rugged coastline of the area is simply stunning with many important geological features. At night be delighted with quaint accommodation in a historic pub in your own room and local restaurants for delicious dinners.
OVERVIEW:
Day 1: Bundeena / Wedding Cake Rock Circuit
Trek: Bundeena via Coastal Track to Wedding Cake Rock Circuit. 18 - 19 km Elevation 250m
Today our trek covers the northern section of the Royal National Park. We will firstly head south along the Big Marley Track to Marley Beach and then turn north back along the Coastal Track to trek past Wedding Cake Rock and Port Hacking Point before arriving back where we parked the bus.
We then depart this sleepy little town and travel down to Helensburgh for our accommodation for the next two nights. Helensburgh is as quaint as it is surprising. With its location only one hour from Sydney the food culture is alive and kicking in this otherwise low key village.
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Day 2: Coastal Track
Trek: Curra Moors Circuit track & Garawarra ridge to Burning Palms 20 - 22 km Elevation 700m
The natural formation (and wonder) of the Figure of Eight pools requires a low tide. The best time to access the rock shelf is two - one hours either side of low tide.
To accommodate this requirement today we do two circuit treks of approximately 10 - 12 kms each. They both have a good amount of coastal contact and great views to the north and south. The Garawarra ridge and Burning Palms are forested and very shady where as the Curra Moors are more open coastal heath country.
The rock shelf walking is fun and there are some scrambling sections. There is a small holiday shack village in Burning Palms beach with an array of interesting off the grid cabins.
Arriving back to Helensburgh for our second night we will dine at another local restaurant.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3: La Perouse to Coogee
Trek: La Perouse to Coogee Beach 17 - 18 km
We depart early from Helensburgh with a breakfast pack on board. The coastal trek today commences in La Perouse and you will find the trails underfoot easy today for this final hike up to Coogee. Depending on the weather we will stop in at the surf club for a quick change in to our swimmers for a dip in the ocean to finish a invigorated few days away.
